Three Dutch institutes have joined forces in a public-private partnership to invest €28 million in personalized medicine projects, they announced today. The three groups — the BioMedical Materials Program, the Center for Translational Molecular Medicine, and the Top Institute Pharma — have already selected seven projects that will receive funding from the collaboration. The projects will focus on personalized medicine research in cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
The projects being funded will focus on developing image-guided and targeted-delivery techniques, which the partners said are highly interdisciplinary and leverage the strengths of the three institutes. Top Institute Pharma is focused on drug development, while CTMM works on molecular diagnostics, and BMM specializes in biomaterials and regenerative medicine. The seven projects selected by the partners brings together 12 knowledge institutes and 14 industrial parties and were the result of an earlier call for proposals. "The outstanding quality of the proposals selected from the joint call should really help us to put personalized medicine into practice," Hans Hoogervorst, chairman of the supervisory board of CTMM said in a statement.
