Monomers with fluorescent tags are often used to build polymers that can be detected at very low concentrations using fluorescence spectroscopy.

This methacrylate substituted version of Rhodamine B thicarbonate can be polymerized along with acrylates, methacrylates and other olefin-containing monomers to provide polymers with a specific fluorescent tag.
