France has named Dr. Harry L. Messmore of Loyola University Health System a Knight of the Legion of Honor in recognition of his valor during World War II.

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced Martin Karplus, professor emeritus, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Harvard University; and Laboratoire de Chimie Biophysique, ISIS, Universite Louis Pasteur, the winner of the 2010 Russell Varian Prize.

Catherine A. Blish, M.D., Ph.D., Acting Instructor in Medicine, University of Washington, and Associate, Human Biology Division, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, has been chosen by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) to receive a 2010 ICAAC Young Investigator Award for her outstanding work elucidating the role of neutralizing antibodies in HIV transmission.
